Content
Library of Grammar School in Brzeg was created in 1569 on basis of resolution of Georg II (1523-1586), prince of Legnica and Brzeg from Piast family. In baroque writings it is known under name of Bibliotheca Piastorum Bregensis or Bibliotheca Gymnasii Illustris Bregensis. Brzeg's Library consists of eight parts, that represent process of constant grown of collections through donations – from oldest part of books originating from collegiate church and prince Georg II collections, trough collections of other princes and nobles up to collections of rectors of Grammar School.
In 1950 Library of Grammar School in Brzeg has been merged into Wroclaw University Library as one of restricted collection and sorted by historical order. After relocating this collection to newly restored building on św. Jadwigi 3/4 St., it has been processed in traditional way, in shortened form.
As result, this alphabetical paper card catalog was created, sorted by author and title subjects.

Catalog of former Library of Grammar School in Brzeg is sorted alphabetically by author and title subjects.
Title subject is noun grammatically superior, i.e. title subject (attention: if title begins with adjective, title subject will be noun grammatically superior in title), e.g.:

for title: ”Treuherziger ... Discurs ob bey denen auss der Bömhmischen unruhe entstandenen extremiteten keine mittel zufinden dem beschwärlichen Unwesen zuhelffen und Rath zuschaffen” it will be noun: „Diskurs”

for title: „D.Martino Zimmermanno ... et D.Annae Marcae ...Iosiae Marci ... fil. Epithalamium ...” it will be noun: „Epithalamium”

for title: „Der Prediger göttliches Worts zu Embden christliche Erinnerung von der unbestendigen ... Widerlegung, So wider ihre ... Bekendnis ... Aegidus Hunnius ... sich gelüsten lassen ...”
it will be noun: „Erinnerung”

Six numbers in top right corner of photographed card is current call number of print, e.g.: 401778

Number in left top corner is historical call number that indicates origin of print.

Oldest part of this collection is designated as Antiqua I and Antiqua II.
Historical call number consists of two parts: name of library: “Brzeg” and abbreviation of collection's part.

Abbreviations of collection's parts are as follow:

Ant. I = Antiqua I, materials originating from the oldest part of Brzeg's collections, so called collegiate church's collection and from donations of prince Joachim Friedrich and other lesser donations.

Ant.II = Antiqua II, further donations, among them from Czech Brothers: John Felinusa and Peter Figulus.

Laub. = Lauban, library of Melchior Lauban donated to Grammar School in 1633.

J. Chr. = Jan Chrystian, books from library of John Chrystian (1591-1639), prince of Legnica and Brzeg, donated by his sons to Grammar School in 1647.

Seb. = Sebottendorf, materials originating from Peter von Sebottendorfa library, councilor of prince Georg III, purchased for Grammar School.

D. E. = Dorota Elżbieta, materials originating from library of Georg III (1611-1664), prince of Legnica and Brzeg, donated by his daughter, Dorothy Elizabeth, to Grammar School in 1674.

W. = Winckler, collection of rector Bernard Winckler, merged into Library of Grammar School at the end of 18th century.

Add. = Addenda, materials purchased in 19th and 20th century (to 1942).
