Conservation of the old print from the Old Prints Department: reconstruction of the marbling veneers

Among old prints that underwent process of conservation in 2014 there was the work of Charles Cameron: The Baths Of The Romans (1772). The block of this old print has survived in good condition, but binding has been severely damaged. It is a typical half-leather binding with paper veneer marbled with ebru technique. Due to the historic value of the marbling it was decided to reconstruct the veneer in the same tone and technique (K. Turner). The preserved original fragments, secured in an envelope, are stored together with the old print.
