Instructions for Valuation of Lost/Damaged Library Materials. Based on Chapter IV of the Rules of Collection Circulation in the Wroclaw University Library

Based on Chapter IV of the Rules of Collection Circulation in the Wroclaw University Library.

1. In the event of loss or damage to a borrowed publication, the user is obliged to purchase it in the same or newer edition, after prior consultation with an employee of the WUL's Local Lending Department. A purchase without consultation may not be recognized.

2. In a situation where it is not possible to purchase the same publication or its newer edition, the user is obliged to pay a fee in accordance with the valuation of the lost/damaged publication or purchase another title indicated by the librarian.

3. The minimum valuation of a lost or damaged item is 60.00 PLN. This amount also includes the costs of computer and formal cataloging and a new RFID label.

4. Older publications, particularly valuable or difficult to acquire, are subjected to individual valuation. The basis for this valuation are prices included in antiquarian and auction catalogues. The valuation is made by the Antiquarian Commission of the Wroclaw University Library.

5. The Wroclaw University Library reserves the right to indicate a specific title that should be purchased in exchange for a lost or damaged copy.

6. In special cases, the decision to purchase a lost publication is made by the menager of the WULS' Collections’ Acquisition Department in consultation with the Director of the Wroclaw University Library.

7. The fee for a lost or damaged copy should be paid:

8. The valuation rules for lost or damaged books may be updated based on current market prices and antiquarian prices.

9. These rules, approved by the director of the Wrocław University Library, are effective from 1.23.2025.
