Children's Guardians Zone

The Wroclaw University Library, meeting the needs of users who combine academic, professional, and family responsibilities, has created the Children's Guardians Zone. This space, available from October 2025, exemplifies the institution's efforts to ensure equal access to library resources and services and to support members of the academic community in balancing research, teaching, and parenting.

The zone was designed as a place where parents and guardians can conduct academic, teaching, or individual work requiring concentration, while ensuring a comfortable and safe stay for children. Users can study, prepare research materials, write theses, or perform other academic duties while having their children in close proximity. The zone's facilities are adapted to the needs of children of all ages. It includes foam blocks, boards, drawing and coloring sets, and other art materials to foster creativity of the youngest. The collection of children's literature includes publications tailored to different age groups – from picture books to titles that foster cognitive curiosity and an interest in reading. For the comfort of families with infants, the space is equipped with a playpen and a highchair, and a changing table is installed in the adjacent restroom. These solutions allow parents and guardians to use the library facilities without having to give up childcare, while maintaining conditions conducive to learning and working.

For your convenience, Café Kwerenda is located in the hallway, right next to the Zone. You can warm up a child's meal, boil a bottle of water, or buy a coffee or snack from the vending machine. Additionally, there's a cafeteria on the ground floor where you can enjoy breakfast or lunch. The creation of the Children's Guardians Zone is part of the Wroclaw University Library's mission to ensure equal access to knowledge regardless of users' circumstances of life. The project aligns with the University of Wrocław's strategy to support members of the academic community in balancing professional, academic, and family life. The Zone reflects the University of Wrocław's commitment to creating a friendly, modern, and socially responsible space where the values of science, culture, and mutual understanding are combined. To use the Zone, you must have an active user's account in the Wroclaw University Library. Accounts are automatically assigned to UoW employees and students; they must be activated by logging into the online catalog on the website [link]. We encourage people studying at other institutions of higher education other than the University of Wrocław and those not affiliated with any university to create an account using the form available on our website [link].
