Oxford English Dictionary is the world's most important source of knowledge about the English language - showing not only the meanings but also the origins and historical development of over 500,000 words and expressions!
It includes a word history based on over 3 million quotations, which can be browsed alphabetically, thematically, or by source. It also includes a historical thesaurus that shows how words have changed over the centuries. Another interesting element is the extended content on the varieties of English around the world (World Englishes) and the so-called antedatings, i.e. the discovery of earlier examples of the use of words such as glamour, bloke, and tooth fairy.
