CYMELIADA 2026 – start your studies by discovering the Wroclaw University Library

The start of university studies is a time to get to know the new academic environment and acquire the skills needed for effective study. Where can you find the literature and materials required for your classes? How do you use the library catalog and specialized databases? How can you make use of the library’s spaces for independent study, teamwork, relaxing between classes, or meeting in a more informal atmosphere?

Answers to these questions can be found in the Wroclaw University Library. We invite first-year students of the University of Wrocław to take part in Cymeliada 2026 — the third edition of an event designed to help them get off to a good start at the university.

In a welcoming atmosphere, we will show that the Library is much more than just shelves with books. It is a modern space for learning, independent work, meeting others, and relaxing — as well as a place to discover unique collections and fascinating stories.

Cymeliada will take place on October 13th, October 26th (conducted in English), and October 27th, as well as November 18th and November 19th, 2026.

During the meeting, you will learn the basic rules for using the Library and discover its key services. You will find out how to subscribe to the Library, how to effectively search for books, articles, and other materials in the PRIMO catalog, and how to order, borrow, and renew books yourself. We will also demonstrate how to use self-check stations for quick, queue-free borrowing, as well as how the 24-hour library drop box and book pick-up machine work, and how to access specialized databases remotely via a proxy account.

Participants in Cymeliada will have the chance to explore the Library from the inside and see the spaces designed for both work and relaxation. The tour includes visits to reading rooms, individual and group study booths, and areas where you can take a breather between classes. You will also visit Café Kwerenda — a self-service café where coffee, study sessions, and a solid plan for the exam period make for a perfect combination.

During the event, you will also visit the Comics and Graphic Novels Zone—a space for those interested in visual storytelling, illustration, visual culture, and creative pursuits. There will also be an opportunity to meet Cymeliusz, the benevolent spirit of the Wroclaw University Library, with whom it is well worth taking a souvenir photo to mark the start of your academic adventure.

A highlight of the program will be a visit to the Special Collections' Reading Room. This is an opportunity to view rare early printed books, manuscripts, and other treasures — unique items of exceptional historical and cultural value — up close. The visit offers a chance to discover a lesser-known yet truly fascinating side of the Library and to realize that within its walls lie stories older than many universities.

Cymeliada offers practical knowledge, friendly support from librarians, and a chance to get to know a place that can become an important part of your daily life at the University. Join Cymeliada 2026, discover the possibilities offered by the Wroclaw University Library, and start your studies with greater confidence, curiosity, and solid preparation.
