Since 1951 Wroclaw University Library carries on the process of systematic protection of its special collections on microfilms and photocopies, and recently also on CD-ROMs. Collections of: manuscripts, music materials, old prints, postcards and Silesian newspapers mostly undergo that process.

Microfilming allows to archive Library materials and to protect the originals by creating their copies from microfilms.

If microfilm is available, the original material is accessible to readers only under special circumstances, accordingly to WUL's Rules.

Information regarding microfilms is available in catalogs and indexes of particular Departments of special collection.

Services concerning protection of collections are carried out in Reprographic and Digitization Unit.
